Terms of Service
Last updated October 15, 2026
Version 2026-10-15
These terms cover booking and paying for a sharpening visit with Kept Sharp LLC ("Kept Sharp", "we", "us"). By booking, you agree to them. We kept them short and plain.
Our paper-test guarantee
After sharpening, each knife we sharpen should slice cleanly through a sheet of standard printer paper (letter or A4). Your sharpener checks every knife this way before returning it.
If a knife doesn't slice paper cleanly, tell us within 7 days of your visit by text, call, or email. We'll re-sharpen it, show you it slices paper cleanly, and that knife is on us: we won't charge you for it, or we'll refund what you paid for it if you were already charged. The $40 visit minimum still applies.
The guarantee covers knives. It covers the edge as we left it, not new damage after the visit (for example, a chip from hitting bone or a drop on tile).
If before sharpening we tell you a particular knife can't reach a paper-slicing edge (for example, because of damage or worn-out steel) and you still want us to sharpen it, the paper test doesn't apply to that knife. We tell you before we start, never after. If you're not home, we set that knife aside unsharpened and text you instead.
Other refunds and damage
Outside the paper-test guarantee, refunds are at our discretion. If something isn't right, tell us and we'll work it out fairly.
If you believe we damaged an item, tell us within 7 days of your visit. We'll look at it, and if we caused the damage we'll choose a fair remedy: repair, re-sharpen, refund, or partial or full replacement. That choice is ours to make.
Sharpening removes a small amount of steel, and repairing a chipped or broken tip reshapes the blade. That's normal and isn't damage.
This section does not limit the paper-test guarantee.
Your items
By booking, you confirm that the items you give us are yours, or that you have the owner's permission to have them sharpened.
Pre-existing damage like chips, cracks, rust, loose handles, or bent tips isn't caused by us, and we may note or photograph it before we start.
We may decline some items, such as ceramic knives, heavily serrated blades, heirloom or high-value pieces, or specialty tools. If we're willing to sharpen one of these, we'll tell you first that it's at your own risk, and you decide. We don't sharpen hair or grooming shears.
If you won't be home
If you leave items for us (for example, in a cooler on the porch), you accept the risk of theft or weather while they wait for us before pickup and after we return them. We return items to the same spot, or wherever you tell us.
Who does the work
Sharpening is done by independent sharpeners who work with Kept Sharp as independent contractors, not employees. You book and pay through Kept Sharp, and Kept Sharp handles customer service and stands behind the paper-test guarantee.
Prices and payment
Our prices, any travel fee, and our $40 minimum per visit are shown before you book. Nothing is charged when you book.
If you're home, you pay after the work is done by card, cash, or tap. If you keep a card on file for an unattended visit, we charge it after the work is done.
The final amount is based on the items we actually sharpen, so it can differ from your estimate if you add or remove items. Sales tax is added where it applies. Tips are always voluntary.
Cancelling or rescheduling
You can cancel or reschedule anytime, for free. Cancel with the link in your confirmation email, or text or call 801-896-7363 to cancel or reschedule. There is no late-cancellation or no-show fee.
If we need to reschedule, we'll contact you as early as we can.
Reviews
After your visit we may ask for an honest review. It's never required, and leaving one (good or bad) doesn't change your price or the guarantee.
Emails and texts
By booking, you agree that we may email, text, or call you about your booking: confirmations, schedule changes, reminders, payment, guarantee follow-up, and review requests. We don't use your number or email for marketing lists. Message and data rates may apply, and you can ask us to stop texting you at any time.
Privacy
Our Privacy Policy at /privacy explains what information we collect when you book and how we use it.
Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent Utah law allows, our total liability for any claim related to a visit is limited to the amount you paid for that visit, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential damages (like lost time or lost income).
These limits don't apply where the law doesn't allow them, and they don't take away any right you have under Utah consumer protection law. We may still choose to offer more, such as replacing a damaged item. This section does not limit the paper-test guarantee.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Salt Lake County, Utah, or in small claims court where it qualifies.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the "Last updated" date and version at the top of this page. The terms in effect when you book apply to that booking.
